Anna Zgambo was born at Lusaka’s Kalingalinga Clinic in November 1989. She studied English literature with Dr Antony Goedhals and graduated from the University of Pretoria with the degree Bachelor of Arts Languages in English Studies.
Alliance Française de Lusaka awarded her a diplôme d’études en langue française (DELF) after she passed the B1 French examination with 81.50 points. Thanks to the Department of Culture in the Ministry of Tourism, she performed poetry at State House during President Hakainde Hichilema’s first Investiture Ceremony on Zambia’s 57th National Independence Day.
Zambia Educational Publishing House published Read Prose Poetry by Anna Zgambo, and her collection reached the finals in the creative writing category of the Ngoma Awards 2022.
She won the Best Empress Award at the Zed Rasta Awards, reached the finals of the Papa Meeky Award for Poetry and was a finalist in the Author of the Year Award at Diamond TV’s Personality of the Year Awards. Mubanga Kalimamukwento, Uche Peter Umezurike, Jamal Mahjoub and Kasimma mentored her at the 2024 Idembeka Creative Writing Workshop.
She completed literary coursework in Dr Cheela Chilala’s department and wrote a narratology dissertation for Master of Arts in Literature at the University of Zambia under the supervision of Professor Stewart Crehan.
She studies creative writing at Open Window University with Gankhanani Moyo, Becky Ngoma, Dr Ayan Ahmed, Dr Andrew Mulenga and Natasha Mukamba. Mulenga Kapwepwe introduced her to minting books on the blockchain at the Women Creatives in Tech Workshop. Her agent is Malama Katulwende of Thorn Bird Literary Agency (+260966988022).
